Mark Koyama
Associate Professor of Economics
George Mason University
Mark Koyama is an Associate Professor in Economics at George Mason University. He is also a Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Research and Policy (CEPR) and a Senior Scholar at the Mercatus Center. Born and educated in the UK, Mark received his BA and DPhil from the University of Oxford. His main research interests are in economic history. In particular he is interested in the institutions that support economic growth and liberalism. His book, Persecution and Toleration: The Long Road to Religious Freedom (2019) with Noel Johnson, explores the rise of religious toleration in early modern Europe. In recent work he has studied the economic impact of the Black Death and state formation across Eurasia.
