The Pearson Institute will feature Ian Morris, who will discuss his recent book, Geography is Destiny: Britain's Place in the World: A 10,000-Year History. In the wake of Brexit, Morris chronicles the ten-thousand-year history of Britain's relationship to Europe as it has changed in the context of a globalizing world.

Join us to hear from Dr. Mufaddal Hamadeh, former president of Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), founding member of SAMS oncology center and SAMS children hearing and speech rehabilitation project. Both programs are implemented in Northwest Syria, and Dr. Hamadeh is a leader of multiple medical missions to Lebanon and Syria, and an active participant in SAMS advocacy work. Hamadeh will speak about the healthcare system in Syria and the surrounding region, as well as their advocacy work.

You're invited to hear from The Pearson Institute's special guest, Somdeep Sen, who will discuss Postcolonial Urban Aspirations and Colonial Futures.

Urban development is embossed with colonial legacies – especially with regard to the understandings of “progress” and “modernity” that inform urban development policy and practice. Sen, professor in international development studies, will discuss the smart city projects that have been implemented in Mumbai, India, in relation to the colonial matrix of power.
