Welcoming the Refugees: Lessons of the European Crisis from a French Perspective
Please join us for a public lecture from Pascal Brice, Director-General of the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons (OFPRA), moderated by Kara Ross Camarena, a Postdoctoral Scholar at The Pearson Institute. Pascal Brice has served as the Director-General of OFPRA (French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons) since December 2012. He is overseeing OFPRA at a time when asylum claims are rising in France and tensions are growing in Europe over the issue. In response to this pressure, OFPRA is expanding its presence in France, Europe, the Near East, and Africa. Under Mr. Brice’s direction, OFPRA is modernizing and scaling up its operations; over the past few years, its workforce has doubled to more than 800 officials.
This event is cosponsored by The France Chicago Center at the University of Chicago, the Consulate General of France in Chicago, The University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration, The University of Chicago Law School International Programs and International Human Rights Clinic, and The Pozen Family Center for Human Rights.
