MPP Candidate '26
Shayone Rahman is a first year MPP student at Harris School of Public Policy. She is a dedicated public policy professional with extensive experience serving survivors of gender-based violence and communities experiencing homelessness.
Born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, she experienced housing instability herself, which later fueled her passion for housing policy. As a consultant, she currently supports local governments nationwide in developing equitable, trauma-informed, and survivor-focused housing prioritization models.
In her previous role as Manager of Permanent Housing Inventory and Utilization at the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA), Shayone successfully streamlined the application process across Los Angeles County to provide quicker access and simplify housing applications for people in need.
Shayone also managed the Project Room Key initiative during the COVID-19 pandemic, mobilizing shelter programs across the city of Los Angeles. She established pathways to move the most vulnerable populations from emergency shelters to permanent supportive housing.
Beyond housing, Shayone has served as an interpreter for refugees and immigrants. She is fluent in Bengali, Hindi, and Urdu and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley.
