One War Later

Join The Pearson Institute for a discussion with Colombian Journalist Juanita Velez and Pearson Faculty Affiliate Raul Sanchez de la Sierra featuring Velez's new book "One War Later." It is a journalistic book exploring what happened in Colombia after the peace agreement between the FARC-EP and the Colombian Government through five characters Velez followed for several years.

In a year in which half the world votes, India, the largest democracy, stands out. Ethnic tensions, nationalist rhetoric, and concerns about the influence of AI and other misinformation campaigns form a tense background for this spring's election. What is the historical context for such a contentious political climate? What does this year’s Indian election say about the future of global democracy? 


Featuring Shuja Nawaz, founding director of the South Asia Center at the Atlantic Council, Safiya Ghori-Ahmad, senior director with APCO Worldwide and Dr. Paul Staniland, Associate Professor of Political Science at University of Chicago.

Join us for the screening of the documentary film Congo Calling and a conversation with Director Stephan Hilpert and Harris Professor and film protagonist Raul Sanchez de la Sierra.

In crisis-ridden eastern Congo, three Europeans in the development aid sector, the cultural sector, and the research sector have in common the desire to help the Congo and their Congolese counterparts, but are forced to question themselves and their role in their relationships with the Congo.
