Nancy Soderberg is a prominent American diplomat and policy advisor, currently serving as the Kosovo Resident Senior Director at the National Democratic Institute (NDI). In this role, she focuses on supporting democratic institutions and governance in Kosovo.
Soderberg is also the President and CEO of Soderberg Global Solutions, an international consulting firm. With over thirty years of experience in foreign policy, she has served on four presidential campaigns, in the United States Senate, in the White House, and at the United Nations.
From 1997 to 2001, Soderberg served as Deputy National Security Advisor to President Bill Clinton, playing a key role in the Northern Ireland peace process and efforts to combat terrorism. During this period, President Clinton appointed her as the Alternate Representative to the United Nations as a Presidential Appointee, with the rank of Ambassador. Earlier in her career, Soderberg was a foreign policy advisor to Senator Edward M. Kennedy and served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for African Affairs at the State Department from 1993 to 1997. During her tenure, she was instrumental in shaping U.S. policy towards Africa, including efforts to end conflicts in the region.
In 2012, President Barack Obama appointed her as Chair of the Public Interest Declassification Board, an advisory committee established by Congress to promote public access to U.S. national security decisions.
Soderberg holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Vanderbilt University and a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.
