Thiemo Fetzer

Thiemo Fetzer, Professor of Economics at the University of Warwick and Faculty Affiliate of The Pearson Institute, is primarily interested in topics related to the political economy of development -specifically, the impact of resources and political systems on conflict. He is currently studying security transitions and the impacts of withdrawal strategies in Afghanistan. He is also reviewing the effects of public interventions in reducing conflict in India and carries out research investigating the relationship between resource rents, democratic elections, and civil conflict in Nigeria. More recently, he has partnered with the Brazil-based think tank Igarapé Institute to evaluate body-worn camera interventions with police forces in Latin America and the United States.

Fetzer is affiliated with the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), the Centre for Competitive Advantage in the Global Economy at the University of Warwick, the Households in Conflict Network, and the Spatial Economics Research Centre at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has also worked as a consultant for the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Fetzer was a visiting professor at Harris Public Policy from 2016 to 2017.

He received his BSc from Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg and his MSc and PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
