Pablo Castillo-Díaz has focused on efforts at UN Women to prevent and respond to sexual and gender-based violence in conflict, post-conflict, and emergency settings; mainstream gender equality in peacekeeping operations; and influence the deliberations and decisions of the Security Council so that they address women’s rights. He has also contributed to new knowledge in the area of women, peace, and security, and the preparations of the annual report of the UN Secretary-General on these matters. Before joining the United Nations in 2009, he taught international politics at several universities in the US, including Rutgers, Fordham, Queens and Lehman. After growing up in the Canary Islands in Spain, he studied Political Science at Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and earned a PhD in Global Affairs at Rutgers University.
